Mahjong Ways 2 – Theme and Style

qqee Mahjong Ways 2 main game screen and tiles layout

Mahjong Ways 2 is a video slot by PG Soft that blends the design of traditional Chinese mahjong tiles with modern slot mechanics. The game's visual design carries a clear traditional feel — tiles arranged in golden frames, red and green symbols, and a backdrop built from Eastern elements.

Compared to its direct predecessor Mahjong Ways, this version adds a higher RTP and several extra bonus features. It runs on a 5-reel, 5-row grid where wins are determined not by paylines but by a "Ways to Win" system — with 3,125 possible ways in total. The game works the same way on both smartphones and browsers on the qqee casino platform.

The maximum RTP is 96.95%, which is a relatively strong position within the slots category. Keep in mind that RTP is a long-term statistic — it is not guaranteed by any individual spin.

How a spin works

Before starting the game, you need to set your bet size. Mahjong Ways 2 has a wide betting range, so players with smaller budgets can get started too. Once the bet is set, pressing "Spin" or "Auto Spin" drops tiles randomly across the 25 positions of the 5×5 grid.

Wins are formed through the Cascade (Avalanche) mechanic — a payout is awarded when the same symbol connects across consecutive reels from left to right in a single spin. When winning tiles are removed, new tiles fall from above, creating the chance to land multiple wins in a row from a single spin.

Special symbols include Wild, Scatter, and multiplier tiles. Landing a certain number of Scatters triggers the free spins round. Multipliers can build up during free spins — the multiplier grows with each cascade win and does not reset, which significantly increases the chance of a large win.

The game's highest win potential is concentrated mainly in the free spins round. Smaller to medium wins are more common in the base game.

About budget

Mahjong Ways 2 allows you to start with small bets. Even so, it is a good idea to set a fixed budget for each session. Because of the cascade mechanic, a single spin does not end quickly, so your balance decreases a little more slowly.

Session length

You can get a feel for this game in short sessions (15–30 minutes). The base game pays out small wins regularly, so your balance tends to stay relatively steady over longer sessions. Landing free spins can make a significant difference in that round.

About volatility

The game is medium to high volatility. That means small wins come occasionally, but large wins are rare and mostly occur in the bonus round. This suits players who prefer occasional big payouts over frequent small ones.

For those playing slots for the first time, the advice is to get a good understanding of the game mechanics first. The qqee slots section has many other types of slots with comparatively lower volatility.

Useful tips before playing slots

  • Practice in demo mode: Many games on qqee can be played in demo mode. Get a proper feel for the game's rhythm and features before putting in real money.
  • Set a session budget: Before each session, decide on a fixed amount that you can afford to lose without it affecting your daily life. Stop the session once you reach that limit.
  • Set a stop limit: Also decide on a profit target in advance. Stopping when you reach a set profit tends to work better in the long run.
  • Take breaks: Playing for long stretches without a break reduces focus. Make a habit of taking a short break every 30 minutes.
  • Read the game rules: Every slot has its own paytable. Click the "i" or "?" icon within the game to find out symbol values and bonus conditions.

Common misconceptions about slots

Many players sit down to play slots carrying some common false beliefs. Knowing about these in advance makes it easier to make better decisions.

"It hasn't paid out in a while, so it's due" — this belief is wrong

The Random Number Generator (RNG) determines each spin completely independently. There is no such thing as a slot being "due" to pay — what happened in the last 100 spins has no effect on the next spin.

"Increasing your bet to recover losses" — a risky approach

Trying to quickly recover losses by raising your bet after losing usually ends in even larger losses. Each spin is independent, so increasing the bet does not improve the chance of winning — it only increases the risk.

"Betting more brings more free spins" — this is also incorrect

The chance of triggering free spins does not depend on the bet amount. The appearance of Scatter symbols depends on the RNG, which has no relation to bet size.

"Auto spin wins more" — there is no difference

Manual or auto spin — the calculation method is the same for both. Auto spin is only for convenience; it does not change the win rate or payout structure.

How it compares to other slot styles

qqee offers many types of slots, and Mahjong Ways 2 stands apart with its own characteristics. Where classic slots on a standard 3×5 grid run on fixed paylines, this game runs on a 5×5 grid with a Ways to Win system — meaning wins can come from far more directions than a fixed number of lines.

Compared to Megaways slots — in Megaways the reel size changes every spin to create thousands of ways. In Mahjong Ways 2 the grid is fixed (5×5) and the number of ways is set (3,125). As a result, the game runs at a somewhat more predictable rhythm.

Compared to simple games like classic fruit slots, this one has many more bonus features — multipliers, free spins, and cascades together make each bonus round a different experience. It is a good option for players who enjoy varied mechanics.

The qqee slots section has many other slot styles — Fortune Tiger, Gates of Olympus, Aviator, and various other types of games. You can pick whichever suits your preference.

Common questions about Mahjong Ways 2

The game's maximum RTP is 96.95%. This is a long-term average figure — calculated from the results of millions of spins. The outcome of each spin is completely random and controlled by an RNG, so this rate is not guaranteed on any single spin.

The free spins round triggers when a certain number of Scatter symbols land on the grid at the same time. No extra bet is needed for this round, and the multiplier increases with each cascade win. The multiplier resets when the free spins end.

Both are made by PG Soft and share the same theme. Mahjong Ways 2 has a higher RTP (96.95%), improved bonus mechanics, and greater multiplier potential. The second version was built on the lessons learned from the original game.

Yes. The cascade runs on a single spin's bet — as long as consecutive wins keep coming, new tiles drop and payouts are added without any extra bet. Once the cascade stops, that spin ends and a new bet is needed for the next spin.

Mahjong Ways 2 runs smoothly on both mobile browsers and the qqee app. PG Soft games are HTML5-based, so the layout adapts to any screen size. The game is available on both Android and iOS.
